Good health goes a long way. That being said, high cholesterol is one of the more common things that patients are hearing from their doctors. Here are few things that will help you better understand how your body and your choices can affect your cholesterol level and how to notice them happening. Eating too much saturated fat, trans fat and cholesterol will be one of the top reasons that we see high cholesterol levels. Saturated fat is found in meats, milk, eggs, butter and cheese, just to name a few. Trans fat on the other hand is found in packaged and fried foods.

Tied to a poor diet, your lack of physical activity or body weight could also affect your cholesterol level. Any lack of physical activity or point of overweight can raise your cholesterol, so staying active and at a healthy weight is a great way to minimize your chances of that happening. Once you hit 20 though, your cholesterol naturally starts to raise, but, it’s different for men and women. Women have relatively low cholesterol levels until menopause, while men could struggle with cholesterol until it levels off around age 50.

So how do you prevent it from happening? There’s no guarantee that you can. Staying physically active and maintaining a healthy diet are your best bet, but there is still a chance of dealing with heart disease and heart attacks. Unfortunately, these types of incidents can run in a family bloodline and could still happen even with health precautions taken. At the Metabolic Research Institute in Palm Beach, we are constantly working at providing a treatment for high cholesterol. We hope to find the answers today in order to create a better tomorrow!
